Thanks to Silky’s creative team, the TSURUGI delivers perhaps the lightest weight, best balanced “big saw” ever produced. No handle screws, nuts or needed to keep it together. The result is an aggressive curved or straight blade in popular sizes designed to fit into tight crotches without damage to opposing limbs.
Toni, who owns the Tsurugi medium tooth straight blade stated: “When we were cutting some cherry trees, there was a branch we could not get to but the Tsurugi handled it beautifully. It is a wonderful saw – I love it! ”
Meaning “long sword” in English, the TSURUGI is a unique tree saw that utilizes advanced materials and blade-grinding techniques to deliver a durable, super-slender “spine of teeth,” designed to cut hard-to-soft wood, even in tight spots!
This saw is designed for the pruning of small to medium branches. It has a very narrow blade which allows the user easy access into small spots, such as the fork of a tree or between palm branches. It has a tooth style that will cut dense and sappy timbers with ease. It has a hollow-ground blade, which reduces friction whilst cutting. This allows the cutting stroke to feel very easy and fast.
The teeth are not set. They are what Silky calls a Mirai-Me tooth style. This style of the tooth creates a very smooth cut which leaves the branch so smooth that it will appear as though it has been given a light sand. This benefits the tree by reducing the chance of water and bacteria sitting in grooves in the timber encouraging infection into the wound. This style of tooth also makes a wider cut in the timber than the width of the blade, therefore reducing the chance of the blade jamming.
The blades are made from very strong steel which is also quite flexible. This is very important in a hand saw. The blades are also coated to give them some protection from rust and resin. The handles are made out of a special rubber designed by Silky Japan. It is called GOM and it is extremely comfortable to hold. It absorbs a lot of the vibrations you get when cutting and allows you to have a very good grip, even when your hands are damp. The handles on the Tsurugi have Silky’s amazing new encasement which contains no screws. This makes it very quick and easy to replace blades. All parts are replaceable, so if you lose anything you can order replacement parts, i.e. screws, blades, scabbards, and handles. There is a blade length available for all pruning needs.
